Earth Day
Earth Day is Sunday, April 22 2007. It is a day set aside to consider the Earth and find ways to make it better.
According to the Santa Barbara Community Environmental Council:
"The story goes that Earth Day was conceived by Senator Gaylord Nelson after a trip he took to Santa Barbara right after that horrific oil spill off our coast in 1969. He was so outraged by what he saw that he went back to Washington and passed a bill designating April 22 as a national day to celebrate the earth."
There are many opionions on the health of our Earth, most of them politically motivated, some I agree with and some I do not, from both sides of the aisle. I have simply chosen to make a difference where it is in my ability to do so.
I love our beautiful Central Coast. Vineyards dotting verdant hills bubbling from the majestic Pacfic Ocean, grazing cattle, llamas and other creatures roaming lovely fields of lavender lupine and yellow sourgrass. Living here, it is an easy choice to want to care for our surroundings.
Earth Day is a big, important, day but each day is important. If we all choose to make choices for a better world, every day, imagine the impact in just one year on our Earth, in our world. I believe Earth was given to us to enjoy but that we bear a certain responsibility to also care for it by putting litter in it's place, recycling when possible and planting trees, flowers and plants.
